14.3. Printing from GNU/Linux

GNU/Linux supports native printing through the Common UNIX Printing System (CUPS) and Internet Printing Protocol (IPP).

Printing from GNU/Linux

If SavaPage IPP Everywhere is configured in a Local Network, the corresponding printer is automatically detected by CUPS 2.2.2 (or later) and can directly be used without any configuration.

In older CUPS versions the SavaPage IPP Everywhere printer is recognized as “Network Printer”, but you must choose a driver either from the database (Generic > Generic PostScript Printer Foomatic) or provide a PPD file, i.e. SAVAPAGE.ppd.

You can add any SavaPage Local IPP Printer according to the SavaPage Printer URI syntax. For example:

  • Choose a driver either from the database (Generic > Generic PostScript Printer Foomatic) or provide a PPD file, i.e. SAVAPAGE.ppd.

  • Enter ipps://savapage:8632/printers at Device URI for the default queue, or ipps://savapage:8632/printers/[queue] for any other specific queue.
